English lessons in Hastings

Our lessons are built for young learners who are already living their English rather than only studying it. Students spend their evenings with a host family, ordering their own breakfast and following a conversation at a kitchen table, and the lesson in the morning is where that gets shaped into grammar they can use.
A teaching day
Groups choose a half day or a full day. A half day runs from 8:30 to 12:00, and a full day from 8:30 to 16:00, with a break in the middle for the packed lunch students bring from their host family.
Classes are capped at fifteen students, so nobody sits at the back of a lesson, and every one of our teachers holds a TEFL qualification or better.
How we teach
A typical week uses all four of these, and the balance shifts with the group and the weather:
- Classroom work. Grammar and vocabulary in a structured setting, because that is where the foundations are laid and it still works best sitting down.
- Interactive sessions. Activities and musical exercises that help new language stick, which matters more than it sounds for a student who will be using those words in a host family's kitchen the same evening.
- Outdoor lessons. When the weather allows, we take the lesson out into the town, with group leaders and teachers alongside us throughout. Students ask directions, order in a cafe and read real signs in real places.
- Presentations. The week builds towards a short presentation and an exam, so students go home with something they have finished rather than something they have sat through.
Where lessons are held
We teach at two venues, both a short distance from the daily meeting point, so no group spends its morning travelling to a lesson. Both are comfortable, quiet and properly equipped for a teaching day.
Safety during the teaching day
The care that surrounds a student's stay does not pause for the lesson. Group leaders and teachers stay with their students throughout the teaching day, including every outdoor session, and students are collected by their host family at the end of the school day and brought back the following morning. Our team is on call from arrival to departure.
Adding lessons to a stay
Lessons are optional, and plenty of groups come to us for the host family stay alone. If you would like to add them, tell us the age and level of your group and how long they are with us, and we will put together something that fits.
